Transitioning From 40 Years As A Sheet Metal Worker To Video Creator: It's Been A Awesome Journey

Overlanding provides an abundance of natural wonders to film. With no experience filming and editing videos, what made me think I should start a Youtube channel at 60 years old? It was actually my Ipad assembling a group of pictures into a video.

37 Years of Sheet Metal Work Comes To An End

After retiring on a Friday, I informed my wife that I was feeling bored that night. I worked in construction as a Sheet Metal Worker. It was a stimulating and fulfilling career. What lay ahead for me? Keep reading to discover the reason behind my decision to start a Youtube channel.

Lifelong Learner, Outdoor Enthusiast With No Youtube or Social Media Experience

I have worked in states coast to coast and as far away as Iraq. My spare time hiking, camping, whitewater kayaker, raft guide, and mountain biker. Along the way I continued my education at UC Berkeley and lots of training with my Union. See my Linkedin.

My Wife the Jeep Lover: Wrangler Ecodiesel Purchase Is Central To Why I Started a Youtube Channel

My wife grew up with Jeeps. I bought the Jeep for my wife beginning of the pandemic and proceeded to modify it. We camped using my van prior to the Jeep. Van life wasn't cutting it. We needed off-road capability to explore further out. Eventually came the Xventure XV-3 which was essentially adding a axle for greater gear hauling capacity. We have also acquired a 2022 Gladiator Rubicon Ecodiesel. With these vehicles and the XV-3 it is easy to find picturesque Overlanding locations to collect video.

First Overlanding Trip and Youtube Video

What a thrill! The Mojave road was our first real Overlanding trip with the new Jeep and Xventure trailer. With our guidebook and the Garmin to help find our way we had a awesome adventure. We took a lot of pictures. At home my Ipad created a video (as Ipads will do). Sharing that video with a couple friends and with their resulting encouragement I began to make videos. Started with posting to Facebook, then Instagram, eventually Youtube Muddy Ruttzz was born. Love it when my videos are enjoyed. Even better when they prove useful. I have over 100 adventure and gear review videos on Youtube now.

From Construction Worker To Youtuber: Its Been a Incredible Journey

Learning video, editing, graphic design, website design has kept my brain active. That is important when your older. I do it all myself with the support of my wife. I am also a Part 107 Licensed Drone Pilot. All these skills I started learning in January 2022. I have a long way to go.
