I was frustrated not being able to fuel my Jeep at truck stops. Jeep chose to install a discriminator in the fuel filler tube on Ecodiesel Jeeps. The discriminator allows the smaller diesel nozzle but not a larger gas nozzle to fit into the fuel filler tube. This prevents the accidental introduction of gasoline into the Ecodiesel fuel tank. Unfortunately it won't allow filling with the High Flow 1" Diesel Nozzle found at truck stops. I have a simple fix for it.
Refueling the Wrangler Ecodiesel with the 1" Nozzle at a Truck Stop
Why did I go to the trouble to delete the diesel discriminator from my Wrangler Ecodiesel? When I'm driving my Ecodiesel, I love pulling up alongside the larger trucks to refuel. Truck stops also offer DEF pumps, making it convenient to fill up both tanks. Getting diesel exhaust fluid from a pump is not only cheaper but also fresher compared to getting it from a box.

Torque And Fuel Mileage: The Advantage Of Having A Diesel Motor In The Jeep
With the Wrangler Ecodiesel, I benefit greatly from its towing capabilities, and removing the diesel fuel filler discriminator adds convenience. It also offers ample power for towing my Exventure XV-3 Off-Road Trailer.
Eliminating the Discriminator Is Simple and Only Calls for a Few Basic Hand Tools
It might be a good idea for me, but perhaps not for you. I am the sole person responsible for refueling this vehicle. Without the safety feature, there is a risk of accidentally filling it with gasoline. If there are several drivers who refuel your vehicle, it may be advisable to keep the discriminator in place.
Jeep Has Discontinued Producing Vehicles Equipped With Diesel Engines
It was thrilling for me when Jeep began incorporating Diesel engines in their vehicles. I purchased both a Wrangler and a Gladiator. It's disappointing to learn that it will no longer be available.
The most challenging aspect of this task involves taking out the three screws that secure the DEF filler neck to the fuel filler door.
Challenging yet achievable. The DEF filler neck must be disconnected in order to take out the fuel filler door.

A video shows a man using a pair of Channel Locks to remove the collar with the fuel neck still attached to the vehicle, mistakenly referring to it as the discriminator. Even with the neck removed, removing the collar proved to be difficult. I consider the video misleading, as my attempts and those of others have been unsuccessful. I believe that my method is the most efficient way to eliminate the discriminator, as supported by comments on my YouTube video. If you are thinking about removing the discriminator from your vehicle, my article and video can provide a trustworthy guide.
