We had a incredible adventure at Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. . Possibly the best place in the USA for wheeling and camping in the sand. Our Jeep Gladiator Ecodiesel and Exventure XV-3 were awesome in the sand. Summer weather in Oregon made the trip even better.

First Trip To Oregon Dunes - Sand Camping Learning Curve
Campsites are located in the in the sand and reserving and paying for them is done online at Recreation.gov. We opted for a campsite close to the day use parking lot at Horsefall Campground. Many campsites are very remote and require driving long distance through the dunes. If you like to get away from everyone this is the place.
Stuck Under A Tree While Finding A Campsite At Oregon Dunes Horsefall Campground
Looking for our campsite we drove up a steep hill, around a tight corner, and were surprised by a tree hanging over the trail. The Jeep went under it but the Roof Top Tent did not. I got the chance to try out my new American made shovel.
This Is Sand Camping At Oregon Dunes
Cleared the tree and completed the drive to our campsite at Horsefall Campground. From the sign you can set up anywhere in 150' radius. Dinner, campfire and next day, exploring Oregon Dunes.

We decided to drop our trailer in the day use parking lot in front of camp hosts trailer. Before heading out in the Jeep across the Dunes I dumped my extra Diesel into the tank.
On To The Sand And Across The Oregon Dunes - Note: Close Your Windows When Climbing Dunes
Tires aired down to 15 PSI and Jeep in 4 high we headed out. We tried some dune climbing almost clearing a massive one. When we bogged near the top the front left tire kept spinning and loaded the Gladiator with sand through the open window.
Getting Bogged! We Almost Slid Off The Trail Down Into A Massive Tree Island
Large Tree Islands have steep and soft sandy sides. The trail took us close to one. At the last minute we cut hard left and avoided the disaster of falling in. We were bogged! The shovel, traction boards and locking axles got us out and we continued on to Hauser Beach.
